Evolution Of A Men's Suit


Modern suit appeared in a second part of 19th century. A knee-lenght jacket became shorter to reveal finesse waistcoats. 20th century was much more liberal in fashion. A three piece suits with shorter jacket were named as lounge suits. The base of men’s clothing became suit made of unified fabric which was mixed up with contrasting waistcoat or trousers with cuffs. Before WWII loose trousers and wide jackets were in the lead. A very specific was norfolk jacket sewn from solid tweed. It was usually worn with breeches or plus fours trousers. A sign of the times was also trench coat. Firstly designed only for army, it won favour as a casual wear due to famous hollywood movie stars.
